The future of Les Tres Xemeneies del Besòs was one of the highlights of the BCN Desperta! event, held on September 30. During the event, representatives from the City of Sant Adrià de Besòs, the Consorci del Besòs, and Metrovacesa highlighted the project’s potential to transform the metropolitan waterfront and create new social, economic, and cultural opportunities.
The project will revitalize a 32-hectare area, currently marked by its industrial past, to create a new neighborhood open to the sea, with more than 1,700 housing units—40% of which will be affordable housing—a large park covering approximately 10 hectares, and new community facilities. The project also includes the development of Catalunya Media City, a future hub for the audiovisual and digital industries.
During the debate, special emphasis was placed on public-private partnerships, the integration of market-rate and affordable housing, and the creation of high-quality public spaces. The importance of incorporating criteria related to sustainability, resilience, and adaptation to climate change was also highlighted.
The transformation of the Tres Xemeneies thus represents an opportunity to reconnect Sant Adrià de Besòs with the sea, restore its industrial heritage, and establish the Besòs as a new hub of activity and opportunity for the entire Barcelona metropolitan area.
